Throughout his childhood Dunkerton was always involved in the arts and nature. Growing up in New York he had the best of both worlds. Having always been a casual birder, upon moving to Florida in 1995, birding became a more serious hobby. He started photographing birds and wildlife in 2003 as it seemed a natural progression to couple photography with birding.

Dunkerton is a seasonal field research technician for the Florida Scrub-jay Program on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, a Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge volunteer and has had many images published in various local and national publications.
