Shawneen Finnegan

For the past 26 years learning to identify birds has been a passion for Shawneen. It all began in Palo Alto, California, where her parent taught her about backyard birds. It wasn’t until 1982 that she became hooked and life was never the same again. A love of travel and birds has lead to many trips domestically and internationally. Shawneen spent seven years in Cape May, New Jersey, where she lead tours for WINGS, gave workshops and produced artwork for private collections, magazines and books. As a Cape May Bird Observatory associate naturalist she led bird and butterfly walks. Shawneen eventually moved to Tucson to work full-time in the WINGS office.

She is the author of BirdArea birding software, is an advisory board member for WildBird Magazine and is a former member of the California and New Jersey Bird Records Committees.

Now residing in Portland, Oregon, Shawneen works as free-lance artist and writer.
